Pengo S.p.A. is a well-established and recognized company in the distribution sector for household, foodservice, and baby products.
Founded in 1953 by Amedeo Pengo, the company has successfully transformed itself over the years, evolving from a small family business into a national and international leader. While growing and expanding on a global scale, Pengo S.p.A. has kept its core values of tradition and quality intact, passing them down from generation to generation.
A constant focus on the customer, the pursuit of cutting-edge products, and the adoption of modern logistics solutions are key elements of the company’s philosophy.
With a team of over 250 employees and a network of agents and representatives throughout Italy, Pengo S.p.A. guarantees efficient and timely service, thanks in part to a fleet of over 40 company-owned vehicles.
The company supplies various commercial entities, including large retail chains (GD, GDO, and GSS), department stores, and retail outlets, operating across multiple channels, including the domestic market and the Ho.Re.Ca. sector.
The wide range of products is available both online, through the company’s e-commerce sites, and offline, thanks to showrooms in Bassano del Grappa and Milan, offering customers a comprehensive and diverse shopping experience.
Internationally, Pengo S.p.A. is expanding its presence through Group companies operating in France and Spain, bringing the value of Italian design combined with functionality to the global market.
Advanced logistics represent another key strength: the automated warehouse, equipped with innovative technologies, ensures efficient organization of storage and operations, reducing handling times, minimizing errors, and improving precision in order management.
A Journey of Logistical Innovation
Today, Pengo S.p.A.’s warehouse stands as a benchmark for innovation and logistics efficiency, attracting the interest of Italian and international customers eager to discover the new technologies it has implemented. But where did this project all begin?
Pengo S.p.A.’s primary need was to modernize its goods handling processes, making them more efficient and better suited to the demands of a constantly evolving market.
“In today’s environment, characterized by a growing demand for speed, precision, and reduced operating costs, optimizing the order fulfillment process is a key factor in a company’s competitiveness. Our automation project was developed to meet the diverse needs of a customer base spanning all distribution channels, ensuring a significant improvement in operational efficiency and service quality—essential elements for any operator involved in e-commerce and B2B distribution.” States Sebastiano Bonato, CEO of Pengo S.p.A.
Pengo S.p.A.’s logistics modernization has been an ongoing process for over ten years. The company’s growth has required a constant expansion of storage space and greater integration between procurement and distribution, during a period made even more complex by geopolitical instability. The goal has always been to maintain inventory levels adequate to meet customer needs, carefully managing stock and reorder quantities.
However, until recently, most operations were still based on manual labor, slowing down the process and increasing the margin for error. For this reason, as Sebastiano Bonato explains, Pengo S.p.A. decided to invest in automation in order to:
- Improve the quality of its employees’ work
- Enhance their skills through ongoing training, including interaction with advanced electronic systems and software designed to optimize every operation using modern, high-performance tools.
- Safeguard the product and packaging during all stages of distribution—from storage to delivery to the customer—so that the items presented to the consumer are in perfect condition.
Trascar: a strategic partner for automation
Over the past two years, Pengo S.p.A. has completed the transformation of its logistics center, tackling the challenge of synchronizing the various elements of automation.
The complex now consists of two pairs of Trascar WonderBox sorters and conveyors, complete with management software, as well as a traditional palletized finished-goods warehouse and a picking system for mixed packages—all integrated and managed by Pengo S.p.A.’s proprietary system
Throughout many phases of the project, Pengo S.p.A.’s evolution was guided by Trascar’s expertise, which enabled the company to respond precisely and with a customized approach to the company’s needs. The optimization of resources and the introduction of automated processes were the result of a complex and multifaceted effort, culminating in the creation of a modern and efficient warehouse.
The collaboration with Trascar marked Pengo S.p.A.’s first foray into large-scale automation. The system includes numerous advanced components, such as photoelectric sensors, conveyors, and gripping clamps, which have made it possible to precisely meet the requirements for material handling. Thanks to this integration, the company has achieved a level of process management with non-conformance errors approaching zero.
The Future of Automation at Pengo S.p.A.
Despite the major milestones achieved, Pengo S.p.A. is looking to the future. The company, in collaboration with Trascar, is already exploring further improvements to the system, recognizing that growth will continue to require increasingly advanced solutions.
“The goal is not only to standardize processes but to surpass them, aiming for automation that goes beyond current performance levels. Pengo S.p.A.’s ambition is to anticipate market needs, ensuring an increasingly efficient and innovative service, without ever settling for the goals already achieved. Thanks to our partnership with Trascar and our constant commitment to innovation, the future of our logistics looks increasingly cutting-edge,” concludes Sebastiano Bonato, CEO of Pengo S.p.A.
